Alloys

Gold:
14K = 58,5% Gold, 41,5% other precious metals depending on color.
18K = 75% Gold, 25% other precious metals depending on color.
24K = 100% Gold, not an alloy. Valuable, very nice color but soft.

Gold versus Silver:
Silver is affordable but will tarnish (blacken) and scratches easier than gold.
Gold is valuable, doesn't tarnish and is more resistant to scratches (24K resistance is same with silver)
